How do I select my fence company?
Years of quality service to your community count for something. Don’t hesitate to ask for number of years in business and references. Remember the service you receive before the sale is a good indicator of service after the sale. Reputable fence companies subscribe to the values of the Better Business Bureau.

Can I install my fence?
Most fence companies will sell materials only, and can offer technical advise on how to install your fence successfully. While not rocket science, fence installations require planning, hard work and patience. Therefore, we recommend professional installation.

Can I order my fence online or by phone?

Yes. Though, if you plan to have the fence contractor install your fence, we recommend a site visit prior to establishing a contract. In this way, the pricing for both materials and labor will be much more accurate.

What materials should my fence company use in building my fence?
Though there is a real variety of materials from which to choose, be sure that your contractor uses only materials with a manufacturer’s warranty, where possible. This is particularly important when selecting ornamental aluminum or steel, vinyl fencing and railings.

What should I consider if selecting a wood fence?
There is a diversity of wood fencing. Be sure you use cedar pickets with only a few small and tight knots. We recommend Northern White Premium Grade #1 cedar. While cedar is not typically available with a warranty, it is long-lasting with an estimated life span of more than 15 years; it is naturally resistant to rot (insects do not like the taste!) and requires no maintenance – simply let it weather to its natural steely-gray color.

What should I consider if selecting an ornamental fence?
Though design and appearance is important, be sure you are informed about the less obvious, but significant, characteristics. Select only an ornamental fence that has been galvanized and then powder coated. This is the best way to prevent corrosion years after your contractor has installed your fence. Also, be sure your fence has at least a 10 year warranty. We recommend Ameristar for your ornamental steel fencing and Jerith or Delgard for your aluminum fencing.

What should we inquire about when selecting vinyl?
Your vinyl fence should maintain that “freshly painted” appearance for years. Be sure your fence company installs a product made of only “virgin vinyl’ with an ultraviolet protector. Your warranty should be for at least 20 years. We recommend Maximum or Structures for your vinyl fencing.

If I am looking for the security of chain link, what should I consider?
The fabric should be constructed of nothing less than a 9 gauge wire. The post and rails should be of a minimum 17 gauge material. Be sure your posts are all set in concrete. We recommend that your gate be of a welded construction to keep it rigid for a long duration of service.
